Year 8 Objectives

During the year pupils should learn to:

Structure a sophisticated written argument with fully developed ideas

Conduct simple research into the social/cultural context of a text

Compare two poems showing awareness of differences in structure, language and effect

Use figurative language to good effect in creative writing (poetry and prose)

Use quotation and research to support ideas in a short literature essay

Write a detailed character study showing awareness of an author’s style

Write in monologue form developing a more complex character

Identify and follow the conventions of a genre to construct their own narrative

Analyse the conventions of media texts – visual, aural and written

Use their knowledge of Elizabethan theatre to write about Shakespeare

Take different roles in a structured debate
