Year 7 Objectives

During the year pupils should learn to:

Structure a simple written argument using connectives and paragraphs to develop/oppose ideas

Write a detailed character study making use of inference

Write a monologue based on a straightforward character

Use quotation from text to support argument, character study or answers to comprehension

Correctly identify figurative language and describe its impact

Use figurative language in creative writing (prose – focus on description and atmosphere)

Structure a narrative with strong opening, climax and denouement

Identify and use formal and informal language

Write in the style of a news report, correctly identifying grammatical structures at work

Speak and write to inform, using varied techniques to ensure clarity

Recall key facts about the Elizabethan/early Jacobean theatre

Perform poetry showing sensitivity to rhythm and language

Analyse the demands of a piece of writing in terms of purpose, audience and text type
