Marking

All pieces of extended written work are marked with a letter grade. This mark is in keeping both with tracking and with BMS report grades.

A+ / A / A- Grade 1. Work is highly appropriate to task, thorough, well-presented and very largely accurate, with a sense of flair. Excellent understanding is evident.

B + / B / B- Grade 2. Work is appropriate to task, thoughtful, and clearly presented, with few serious errors. Very sound understanding shown.

C+ / C / C- Grade 3. A solid performance. May miss some of the implications of the task, but presentation is acceptable, accuracy does not obscure sense. Level of understanding shows that attention has been paid, but may be limited in some respects.

D+ / D / D-Grade 4. Ideas underdeveloped, accuracy and/or presentation obscure sense, understanding so limited as to suggest either inattention, cognitive problems or poor organisational skills. Signs of potential, but not being fulfilled.

E+ / E / E-Grade 5. Unacceptably thin or incomplete, undeveloped, poorly presented and/or faulty. At this level it is almost certain that lack of effort is a major issue, and it is strongly advised that the student should repeat the work, either in part or as a whole.

Any work which falls below this level is a clear sign that the pupil is simply not coping with the intellectual demands of the BMS syllabus, and his continued membership of the school is called into question.
