AS Unit 1 Exploring Voices in Speech and Writing (2hr 15min exam) 30%
Close reading of one prose text and reading from a range of other texts. Open text exam with analysis of unseen passages and response to chosen text required (such as The Bloody Chamber or Dubliners).
AS Unit 2 Creating Texts (coursework) 20%
Thematic study of one prose text and one text from either drama or poetry in order to produce own writing for reading and listening audiences. Commentary required for both creative pieces. Free choice of texts, but in keeping with prescribed genre, e.g. dystopias or gothic and supernatural. (2,500 words).
