Essay Writing
For courswork essays we expect you to use Times New Roman, font size 12.
Your name and tutor group must be printed at the top right hand corner of the first page.
The full essay title is to be in bold in font size 14.
Pages are to be numbered and both margins are to be justified (see toolbar).
The title of a novel, play, poem or any other work included in your essay is to be typed in italics (or underlined if hand-written).
The start of each paragraph is to be indented.
Footnotes are to be used when necessary.
A bibliography which records the texts, articles and websites that you have used must be included.
Once you have checked the above, hand in your essay with the pages held together by a paper clip (plastic covers and folders are unnecessary).
Your teacher will, if necessary, give you instructions about line and paragraph spacing and how to include quotations within your essay. If you need help then see your teacher before you hand in your first draft.
